As a self-taught artist, I had been a "hobby" painter and craft "dabbler" for many years before starting Omand Original. Then there came a moment in time (and a milestone birthday) when I decided that if I didn't follow my dream now, I never would. Now I love my life and love my work which, although there are challenging days, gives me a reason to get up in the morning.
I am inspired by the world around me and my experiences of it, both in the past and now, in particular the seashore and countryside in the north east of Scotland where I grew up. I am also influenced by the Scottish Colourists and I find that strong shapes and colour (or the restriction of colour) contribute greatly to my work. Most of my work is painted in acrylic on canvases of different shapes and sizes, although I am now enjoying experimenting more with different media including pencils, pastels, clay and even the virtual paintbrush and the printed word.
As well as creating art, I also enjoy the colourful, creative chaos
that is craft fairs and love exhibiting my work and talking to lots of
people about my work and the arts in general. It would be great if you
could come and see me at one of my Events!
I hope you enjoy your visit to my website and find plenty to look at in the galleries. Please keep in touch with all that's going on at Omand Original by subscribing to the newsletter, reading my news blog and "liking" my Facebook page or just by sending me an email at enquiries@omandoriginal.com.
I look forward to hearing from you and sharing more of my art with you soon!
